Events dedicated to the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Netherlands and Luxembourg

On 24^th of April, commemorative events dedicated to the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place in the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Ambassador Tigran Balayan attended these events in Amsterdam, Almelo and Assen.

Mayor Femke Halsema took part in the commemorative ceremony of the Genocide victims in Amsterdam, members of the parliament, representatives of Armenian community structures were present in the event too. In her speech, the mayor mentioned that the denial of the Armenian genocide is like inflicting anew and deliberate pain on what is already unbearable.

The members of the city council, led by Mayor Arjen Gerritsen, representatives of the Armenian structures were present at the commemorations in Almelo. The mayor used the word genocide in his speech, noting that avoiding of recognition of the crimes committed against humanity gives birth to new ones.

Secretary of State Maarten van Ooijen, who was dispatched by the Dutch government to Armenia, attended the commemoration of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan. Don Seder, a member of the Christian Union party, was also part of the Dutch delegation.

A liturgy was held at the Chapelle du Glacis in Luxembourg on the initiative of the local Armenian community, which was attended by the Archbishop of Luxembourg Cardinal Jean-Claude Holeghish.
